A group of Americans took part in a British tradition yesterday, thanks to U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, who invited guests to a “high tea” to celebrate Women’s History Month.
Elegant place settings, fine china, crumpets, scones, cucumber sandwiches and a tea cozy were all part of the event, which took place at Boulevard Books & Café on 13th Avenue. The tea party was organized by Clorinda Annarummo, an aide to Grimm, with help from her friend Joan Giachetti.
Tatiana Nicoli, owner of the bookstore, was one of eight women honored by Grimm for Women’s History Month.
The list of honorees also included Georgine Benvenuto, owner of the art gallery known as Gallery 364. Benvenuto is a photographer whose pictures have often graced the pages of the Bay Ridge Eagle.
In addition to Nicoli and Benvenuto, the honorees were Arlene Rutuelo, Aida Nicolaou, Susan Esposito, Zeinab Badier, Eleanor Schiano, and Phyllis Carbo.
Grimm praised the women for their contributions to the community. “Your contribution is immense. You can never be overlooked and you can never be thanked enough,” he told the women.
