Breaking News Bulletin: Meeting last week, Community Board 10, chaired by Joanne Seminara, almost unanimously — one single, solitary negative vote –— approved the “Summer Stroll on 3rd” program for this upcoming July and August.

Third Ave. Merchants’ “Summer Stroll” Plan Clears Hurdle

It’s still winter, but leaders of a leading business organization in Bay Ridge are thinking ahead to the summer.

The Merchants of Third Avenue organization cleared a major hurdle in its effort to introduce a summer stroll program on the avenue this summer when Community Board 10 voted to approve the business group’s proposal on Monday.

The vote took place at the community board’s monthly meeting.

Under the proposal, which the Merchants group is calling “Summer Stroll On 3rd,” an eight-block stretch of Third Avenue, from 81st Street to 89th Street, will be turned into a Venice-style piazza on four Friday nights – two in July and two in August. read more »

A ‘Piazza’ Is Not a ‘Plaza,’ It’s A Classy ‘Summer Stroll on 3rd’

What’s the difference between a “plaza,” a “piazza” and a “stroll?”

Hopefully, Bay Ridgeites and a select throng of peaceful, law-abiding, culture-loving aficionados will find out this July and August when they come to Third Avenue’s “Summer Stroll.”

The program, which will hopefully take place on selected Friday nights, is such a novel idea that it’s acquired a number of names. One newspaper has called it a “plaza.” Not so. read more »

Community Board 10 Meets Feb. 27

Community Board 10 will hold its next meeting on Monday, Feb. 27, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1305 86th St., at 7:15 p.m.

The board will vote on whether to recommend city approval for the “Summer Stroll On Third” event, which the Merchants of Third Avenue organization, state Sen. Marty Golden, and Councilman Vincent Gentile are proposing for this July and August. read more »
