Top St. Pat’s Grad Headed to Fontbonne

Amanda Larney graduated at the top of her class at St. Patrick School.

Amanda Larney, the valedictorian of Saint Patrick School, won a full scholarship to Fontbonne Hall Academy and will enter the prestigious girls’ Catholic high school in the fall.
Amanda was a busy young woman during her years at St. Patrick, particularly in her senior year, when she worked on the yearbook staff and put together the slideshow for the graduation ceremony. The slideshow always features pictures of the graduates during their years at the school set to a musical score.
Amanda was a member of the Student Council, the National Junior Honor Society, and the Aquinas Club, a group for academic achievers. She enjoyed being in the Aquinas Club, she said.
“We would do projects during the year. It was a lot of fun,” she said.
Amanda is already looking ahead to college. She hasn’t selected a university yet. After all, it’s still four years away. But she has given a great deal of thought to a career. read more »

Citizen Kane’s Bay Ridge Beat: March 29, 2012

The parade featured traditional Irish step dancers, marching bands, bagpipers and all the traditional banter on the reviewing grandstand brought to us once again by Peter Clavin.

Mayor Mike Bloomberg was a special guest at the parade, but perhaps an even more popular political entity making the rounds was Peanut, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis’s pet chihuahua, who was dressed in an adorable green jacket and cap! read more »

Careers Take Center Stage at St. Patrick School

Doctors, lawyers, firemen, cops — even architects were spotted in the crowd at St. Patrick School’s auditorium on a recent Thursday morning.

That’s because children were permitted to dress up in the uniform relevant to their favorite careers as part of a special “Career Day” ceremony. The event featured a slew of guest speakers, including parents, parishioners and alumni, each of whom explained what they do for a living.

The Bay Ridge Eagle’s own Editor-in-Chief Rick Buttacavoli spoke about his career in journalism and how he relies on updates from other career areas, like real estate, law enforcement and financial services, to create the newspaper each week. Buttacavoli is a 1994 graduate of the school.
