Merchants are terrified in the wake of the murders of two local store owners, one in Bay Ridge and another in Bensonhurst, according to a Fifth Avenue business leader, who said he’s considering holding a meeting with shopkeepers to try and ease everyone’s fears.
Basil Capetanakis, vice president of the Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District (BID), said he would like to hold a special meeting “to inform our members” about the various crime prevention programs available at the 68th Precinct.
“These are things we’re going to need from now on,” Capetanakis said during a press conference held by Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis on Fifth Avenue and 78th Street on Aug. 8 to discuss crime prevention. “Things have changed. Society has changed. We have to warn our merchants.” read more
