Golden Fears Sinkholes Are Part of Larger Problem

Echoing concerns raised at a meeting with DEP officials on Tuesday, Aug. 9, state Sen. Marty Golden called on the New York Department of  Environmental Protection (DEP) to consider conducting a full overhaul of sewers and water mains in the wake of the sinkhole eruptions that have taken place in Bay Ridge this summer.
At the emergency meeting called by Community Board 10, DEP Deputy Commissioner James Roberts told local residents that a study of the current infrastructure is  being  conducted and  should  be  completed by the end of the year. read more »

Bay Ridge – You can enjoy music under the stars this summer, thanks to a concert series sponsored by state Sen. Marty Golden and the Southwest Brooklyn Parks Task Force.
Golden’s summer concert series is being presented in local parks. And it’s free!
The concerts begin on Tuesday, July 10, at 7 p.m., as Bay Ridge’s party band, Head Over Heels, plays 79th Street and Shore Road. read more »

Metrocard Van Coming Apr. 2

Need to refill your Metrocard? We have good news for you. You won’t have to go to an R train station to refill the card. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Metrocard van is coming to Bay Ridge on April 2.

State Sen. Golden has arranged for the Metrocard van to be parked outside his district office at 7408 Fifth Ave. for two hours, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., to assist the needs of subway and bus riders.

You can buy a new Metrocard, refill your old one, or if you are a senior citizen, apply for a reduce fare card. Metropolitan Transportation Authority workers will be on hand to answer any Metrocard-related questions you might have.

Meet Candidate for Congress At Fundraiser

Democrat Mark Murphy, the man hoping to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, is looking forward to meeting supporters at his fundraiser tonight.

The fundraiser will take place at Café Remy, 7110 Third Ave., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

It should be a hot race between Murphy and Grimm, who is running for his second term representing the 13th Congressional District. The district covers nearly all of Bay Ridge. read more »

Sen. Golden Offers Reward In Desecration Case

State Sen. Marty Golden is putting his money where his mouth is when it comes to the case against the vandals who destroyed religious statues on the grounds of Visitation Academy.

Golden is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the persons involved in the desecration of the statues at the Catholic girl’s school on Ridge Boulevard.

“Acts of religious desecration and intolerance have no place within our society, and no one, no matter what faith you follow, approves of such hate. Today, I join with the community in our continued efforts to see justice served in this case and that is why I am posting a $1000 reward for any information that could lead to an arrest,” said Golden. read more »

Quagliones Ready for Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Parade!

The Bay Ridge Saint Patrick's Parade is this Sunday, March 25, and here's one family that's ready for all of the festivities. John Quaglione, deputy chief of staff to state Sen. Marty Golden, and his wife Kerry, a teacher at P.S. 102, pictured with their baby daughter Natalie Grace, celebrated St. Patrick's Day on March 17 by attendiing a family party. Golden Guide Helps Parents Protect Kids From Internet Predators

State Sen. Marty Golden

State Sen. Marty Golden begins his letter on his new Internet safety brochure with a sobering question. “Did you know that one in five children has been sexually solicited online?” he wrote.

Golden has printed a brochure, “Internet Safety,” subtitled “What Every Parent Should Know,” to serve as a guide to parents on how to better protect their children against cyber criminals.

The brochure is available at the senator’s district office at 7408 Fifth Ave. Residents can also e-mail Golden at golden@nysenate.gov to obtain a copy.

The four-page guide offers such tips as “Parental Control Tools,” aimed at assisting parents looking to have a firm hand on their children’s Internet habits. read more »
