Six More Ex-Cops Plead Guilty In Gun-Running Scheme

Six more retired cops have pleaded guilty in the shocking gun-running case that ensnared several officers from the 68th Precinct.

On Feb. 27, Joseph Trischitta and three fellow defendants entered guilty pleas in Manhattan federal court, admitting that they participated in a scheme to transport illegal guns and stolen goods across state lines. Two other defendants pleaded guilty two weeks ago.

A total of 12 suspects were arrested in connection with the scheme in November.

Second Ex-Cop Cops to Running Guns

A second former 68th Precinct police officer has pleaded guilty to conspiring in an interstate gun-smuggling scheme. Marco Venezia’s guilty plea comes nine days after fellow 68th Precinct veteran William Masso admitted to being the ringleader of the alleged 12-person syndicate, which transported contraband that included M-16 rifles, cigarettes and slot machines between New Jersey and New York. Cop Pleads Guilty To Gun Running Charge

A former 68th Precinct police officer has pleaded guilty to charges that he was the mastermind of a scheme to sell illegal guns and stolen goods.

William Masso, 48, faces a maximum of 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 15 by U.S. District Judge John G. Koelti, according to Preet Bharara, U.S. attorney for the southern district of New York, who is prosecuting the case.

Masso also agreed to pay a monetary judgment of $50,000, Bharara said.
