DHAA Indoor Soccer: Castiglione Leads Rangers to Double-OT Win

Varsity Division

RANGERS 6 HORNETS 4 (2 OT)

The DHAA/St. Bernadette indoor soccer playoffs kicked off this weekend with some exciting games in the Varsity Division. The Hornets started the scoring when Justin Romero blasted a shot past the Rangers’ goaltender. Then Francesco Bentivedo scored the Hornets’ second goal to give them a 2-0 lead.

The Rangers came right back when Sal Cardinale blasted a shot that deflected off Dom Castiglione and went into the Hornets’ net. Castiglione tied the game a few minutes later. The Rangers took the lead when Matthew Mangano passed the ball to Castiglione, who knocked in his third goal of the game. read more »

DHAA Indoor Soccer: Jags Run Wild in Second Half, Rout Rangers

 Rookie Division

JAGUARS 8 RANGERS 3

The Rangers got on the board first with a quick goal by Vito Demonte, but the Jaguars retaliated with a goal from Joe Rowdis to tie the game at 1-1. Gabriel Caso struck back for the Rangers with a goal to take a 2-1 lead, only to be offset by the Jaguars Gabriela Peralta, who blasted a spectacular shot from a defensive position across the field and into the net to tie the game at 2-2. Rowdis then scored two consecutive goals to give the Rangers a 4-2 lead. With time running out in the half, Caso scored another goal for the Rangers to narrow the deficit to 4-3 at the end of the half.

In the second half, it was all Jaguars. Goals were scored by Rowdis and Joe Fanelli. Then Antonio Gentile scored a pair of goals, one on an assist from Sal Sorrentino, to give the Jaguars an 8-3 victory. read more »

DHAA Indoor Soccer: Rookie Division Rangers Win, JV Counterparts Lose

2/25/12 Results

Rookie Division

RANGERS 6 HORNETS 4

The Rangers took an early 3-0 lead, thanks to two quick goals by Gabriel Caso and another by Niko Geroulanos. The Hornets came right back to tie the game as Angelo Fogliano scored three straight goals.

Then Caso scored two more goals to put the Rangers up again by a margin of 5-3. Marc Benvenuto and Vito Demonte assisted Caso on those goals. The Hornets came back again on yet another goal by Fogliano, who received a perfect pass from James Cona in front of the Rangers net. Benvenuto scored the sixth and deciding goal for the Rangers on a shot from the defensive zone, all the way across the gym. read more »

DHAA Indoor Soccer: Stingrays Win in JV, Rookie Divisions

Eric King scored three goals for the Rookie Division Stingrays.

Junior Varsity Division

STINGRAYS 2 PANTHERS 0

The Panthers played an incredible defensive game, but the Stingrays were able to score two goals — one by Matthew McCarthy and one by Jake Mangano. Panther defenders Norbert Panczak and Donovan DiDonato were simply amazing. Kayla Hankash and Joe Baglivo also kept the Panthers in the game with some nice saves in goal. read more »
