Beach Bum of the Week: Michelle Danzig

Second-year Beach Bum Michelle Danzig, 22, lives in Huntington Station, L.I. She is a graduate of Towson University with a degree in mass communication and a concentration in journalism and creative writing.
Just like fellow Beach Bums Sam and Alli, who recruited her for this summer job, she has been dancing since she was 3 years old. As a self proclaimed “huge Mets and Jets fan,” Danzig would like to use her degree to one day become a sports writer. read more »

Brooklyn All-Stars Combine for National League Win

Jamestown Jammers Manager Angel Espada certainly knew what he was doing when he decided to pitch three of the four Brooklyn All-Star pitchers in the first three innings of this season’s New York Penn League All-Star Game at Mahoning Valley on Aug. 13 in front of 5,897 fans.
With leaders in both strikeouts and ERA, each Cyclone threw a scoreless inning to open the game (Luis Mateo struck out two in the first inning; John Mincone struck out two more in the second inning; and Hansel Robles allowed just one hit in the third). read more »

Beach Bum Alli Greenstein is a 22-year-old Huntington, Long Island resident and a graduate of Towson University. Still considering her career options after earning her psychology degree from Towson, Greenstein is currently enjoying her first season dancing in the Beach Bums troupe.
After taking dance for credit in college, Greenstein is enjoying the performing aspect of her summer job at MCU Park. read more »

Brooklyn All-Star Robles Flirts With Perfection

“A double no-hitter going into the eighth inning! What can you say? Their pitchers were real good and Robles was just spectacular,” exclaimed Brooklyn Manager Rich Donnelly after a classic pitchers’ duel that ended in a 1-0 win for the Cyclones in the ninth inning over the Vermont Lake Monsters.
While a combination of three Vermont pitchers took a no-hitter, with just one walk issued, into the eighth inning, RHP Hansel Robles, who had just been named to the Penn League All-Star squad, took a perfect game into the eighth. read more »

Maglio Enters Sandlot Baseball Hall of Fame

The Brooklyn Cyclones inducted Nick “Buff” Maglio into the Brooklyn Sandlot Hall of Fame on Sunday Aug. 5. This honor is bestowed upon those who have served the children of New York City and the greater metropolitan area while promoting an attitude of professionalism and fair play.
Those who are immortalized in the Sandlot Baseball Hall of fame have dedicated their lives to the youth of the community and helped pave the way for their success, both on the ball field and in life. read more »

Beach Bum of the Week: Samantha Natalello

“I don’t know what else I’d be doing for the summer,” said 22-year-old Samantha Natalello, who’s going on her third year of dancing in the Beach Bums troupe.
The Huntington High School graduate will be starting her senior year at Dowling College this fall. Although she has a love for dance, Natalello is keeping her career options open, with a major in elementary education and a minor in dance. read more »

Johan Helps Cyclones Get Back on Track

There was a buzz outside MCU Park on Aug. 5 for the 5 p.m. game as a crowd of Cyclones fans hovered around the parking lot, hoping to get close enough to see Mets ace Johan Santana, who would be making his first appearance since being placed on the disabled list on July 20. Santana returned to the mound after rehabbing his sprained ankle and his fatigued arm to pitch the first three innings of the Cyclones’ game against the Auburn Doubledays, the team with which Santana had originally started his minor league career when he was in the Houston Astros organization. read more »

Renegades Overtake Cyclones for First Place

It’s been one step forward and two steps back for Brooklyn lately, a trend that allowed the Hudson Valley Renegades to overtake the Cyclones for first place in the McNamara Division this past week.
With a number of Brooklyn bats cooling off, the Cyclones’ pitching, which is ranked third in the league, continues to carry the team. The Renegades have come on gradually during the month of July relying on their own pitching corps, which ranks fourth in the league, right behind the Cyclones. read more »

Better known as Yo-Yo to her fans at MCU Park, Gentry is 20 years old and comes to Brooklyn by way of the Lonestar State, where she graduated form Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas, Texas. Currently, Yo-Yo is living in Brooklyn and attending LIU on a dance scholarship, the main reason that she decided to come to the Big Apple. read more »
