Arts Fest Fans Pick Their Favorites

Bay Ridge — Everyone attending the opening night of the Bay Ridge Festival of the Arts had a favorite — a painting or photo they were drawn to and couldn’t stop gazing at.

For Lucy Ciancio, it was “Dancing the Tango,” a striking portrait painted by Michael Maggio of a couple locked in a dance-floor embrace, the women’s fishnet stocking-covered leg stretching boldly into the air.

“It’s very beautiful,” Ciancio said, as she looked at the painting and smiled. read more »

‘Culture’ Crowd To Meet at Owl’s Head

Members of the Bay Ridge Arts + Cultural Alliance will meet at The Owl’s Head, 479 74th St., on Tuesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. The alliance, organized last year with help from Councilman Vincent Gentile, works to promote the arts and creativity in bay Ridge. BID Preps for Art Walk

This painting, by Emet Sosna, hung in the vestibule of the Roosevelt Savings Bank at 8110 Fifth Ave. last year.

Fifth Avenue store windows will become canvasses for talented artists this spring.

The date has been set for the Third Annual Storefront Art Walk, an art show sponsored by the Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District (BID). The exhibition will take place from May 18 to June 17 on Fifth Avenue from 65th Street to 85th Street.

The deadline for artists to submit their work for consideration by the selection panel is March 27. read more »
