The 13th Avenue Merchants Association introduced its new officers on Monday, Feb. 13, at Boulevard Books & Café, 7518 13th Ave. The popular bookstore is owned by the association’s new co-president, Tatiana Nicoli, who was sworn in alongside Co-President Dominick Sarta and other officers by U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm. Each officer was also presented a certificate by Councilman Vincent Gentile.

The officers wasted no time in announcing some big plans for the avenue regarding District Attorney Charles Hynes’ “Safe Stop” program. Hynes will join state Sen. Marty Golden and members of the association at a press conference on Friday, Feb. 17, to announce the addition of 15 stores along the Dyker Heights shopping thoroughfare to the “Safe Stop” program. Efforts to increase participation in and awareness of the program are designed to improve the safety of all residents and shoppers, association members said. The press conference will take place at 1 p.m. at Kaktus, 7511 13th Ave.
