Not again! As this week’s edition of the Bay Ridge Eagle went to press, reports of another giant sinkhole flooded the office, this time on 79th Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues. “The sinkhole is approximately 15 feet by 20 feet,” reported Justin Brannan, communications director for Councilman Vincent Gentile, on Facebook. “No injuries were reported, thankfully. ConEd, DOT, DEP and OEM are all en route. NYPD and FDNY are on the scene.”
Concerned residents came out of their homes to see the drama unfold, as the enormous hole formed directly underneath a parked car, which teetered on its edge as emergency crews arrived. The scene was reminiscent of the giant sinkhole that formed on 92nd Street on June 28, the effects of which are still being felt. For more on this breaking story, keep checking www.bayridgelife.com.
