The Bay Ridge arts community is organizing two events to raise funds to assist the Howe family and other families displaced by the four-alarm fire that destroyed 81st Street homes last week.
Friends of the families have created a group called the Helping Hands Project to spearhead fundraising efforts, according to one member, who said the group members “don’t want our individual names mentioned.”
The Helping Hands Project is organizing two events: a concert on July 8 and a two-night reprise of Trouble at the Tropicabana, a dinner-theater show that was presented earlier this year.
The July 8 concert will take place at the Salty Dog, a restaurant-bar at 7509 Third Ave. The benefit concert will start at noon. The performers will include: Frankie Marra & His Band (featuring special guests John Rafferty and Andrew Gerardi); Head N’ South; The Ridge; High Tides; and Cassone, D’Emic and Lepore with Bauer, Radio Daze and Atomic Dog.
The reprise of the show will take place in August at a location to be announced.
Meanwhile, the project is collecting gift cards for the families. Anyone who wishes to donate a gift card can drop it off at any of the following locations and times:
Councilman Vincent Gentile’s office, 8703 Third Ave., 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; state Sen. Marty Golden’s office, 7408 Fifth Ave., 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Play Days and Parties, 6632 Third Ave., 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and Gabriel Pediatrics, 7715 Fourth Ave., 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
