Here, there and everywhere … It’s interesting how the simplest moments can trigger such a tremendous flood of memories. Interesting, but not unexpected, when the memories are of the late Tom Kane.
TK knew so many people and did so many things during his life that we are constantly reminded of him. This week, though, the signs were everywhere.
First, there was the Francesco Loccisano Memorial Foundation’s “Frankie’s Heroes” announcement event on Friday, March 9, which saluted local youngsters for making a difference in their communities. The foundation itself, run by the extraordinary Camille Orrichio Loccisano in memory of her truly heroic son Frankie, who died of cancer in 2007, was one that TK revered sincerely and of which he was grateful to be a part.

Then on Saturday, March 10, the annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Parade Installation Dinner-Dance was held to honor 2012 Grand Marshal Msgr. Kevin Noone and his deputies. We couldn’t help but think of Tommy, who served as a deputy marshal just a few years ago.
Finally, and perhaps most interesting, was this week’s sighting of “The Sopranos” actor Tony Sirico at Gino’s Restaurant on Fifth Avenue. In true “Paulie Walnuts” fashion, Sirico was having lunch with some friends and posed for a photo with state Sen. Marty Golden.
How could we not instantly think of TK’s own encounter with the iconic actor, and the charming anecdote that came along with it. If you look closely at the classic photo, which we just had to find and reprint, it looks like Sirico is delivering his trademark tough-guy grin. In truth, however, he is about to playfully admonish the photographer by saying, “Come on and snap the picture, kid. I ain’t got all day!”
Ah, TK, thanks for the memories!
