Fundraiser Benefits Kassenbrock Brothers Scholarship

It’s a fun way to raise money for a good cause!

The Board of Trustees of the Kassenbrock Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund held a luncheon at the Bay Ridge Manor on March 4 to raise money for the fund.

Hundreds of Bay Ridge’s civic, business, political, educational, and religious leaders were rubbing elbows in the Manor’s ballroom, all for the cause of helping the community’s young people.

Bay Ridge Community Council President Alex Conti, 68th Precinct Community Council President Ilene Sacco, Kassenbrock Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund Administrator Mary Ann Walsh, 68th Precinct Commander Capt. Richard DiBlasio and state Sen. Marty Golden (left to right) show their support.

The scholarship fund is named in memory of Walter and Vincent Kassenbrock, the founders of the Bay Ridge Community Council. The fund awards scholarships to college-bound high school students who excel academically and in community service.

Last year, the fund handed out more than $40,000 in scholarships.

To add an element of surprise to the luncheon, the trustees held a “silent auction” at the event.

Enjoying the luncheon (left to right) are (seated) John Brennan, Margaret Brennan, Helen Kennedy, Helen Northmore, Gloria Melnick, (standing) Michael Northmore, Bob Kassenbrock, Jane Kelly, Brian Kassenbrock, Eileen Potter and Kevin Peter Carroll.

Guests purchased raffle tickets for the chance to win gift baskets containing such items as cashmere sweaters, beauty aids, football jerseys, and tea sets. Guests placed their raffle tickets in small cups set up in front of the gift baskets they wanted to win. The gift baskets were then raffled off, one by one.

There were more than two dozen gift baskets raffled off at the luncheon.
